The Assistant Controller oversees the day-to-day operations of the accounting department. Duties include ensuring the accuracy and consistency of data for the general ledger, while directing the preparation and timely delivery of financial reports. The position calls for directing month-end closings, ensuring that accounts are properly reconciled while highlighting inconsistencies or unusual transactions. The Assistant Controller will also be the primary point of contact for the external audit and tax compliance.

Essential Functions:
  • Support most aspects of accounting management (billing, tax forms, reporting, etc.)
  • Assist the Corporate Controller in the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with best practices, accounting pronouncements and legislation
  • Responsible for managing operational data and ensuring data integrity and accuracy
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets or forecasts
  • Assist in the month end closing and financial reporting process including account analysis and reconciliation
  • Lead the preparation and execution of the annual audit and serve as liaison to the external auditors.
  • Review the company’s accounting information to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances
  • Utilize accounting IT system to facilitate processes and maintain records
  • On a period basis, identify significant variances, research and document explanations. Summarize and communicate findings to management for period close analytics.
Supervisory responsibility:
  • The Assistant Controller will have one direct report, but will work closely with all employees of the accounting department.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • CPA designation.
  • In-depth knowledge of Manufacturing Cost Accounting.
  • Excellent Communication and Presentation skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP accounting.  
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Master’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • Experience in manufacturing or CPG industry preferred.
