Sr. Manager - Federal & State Tax

The Senior Manager, Federal and State Tax (“Senior Manager”) is responsible for managing federal and state tax strategy, reporting and compliance within the organization. Critical functions include preparing various federal and state tax returns and related reports, conducting tax research and compliance activities, completing tax calculations, and assisting with year-end audits. Additionally, this person will be expected to remain current on new and revised tax law and the applicability to the Firm.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist outside tax preparer with multiple US federal and state income tax returns (i.e. 1120S, 1065, K-1s, and 1040s) by providing work papers and documentation to prepare the returns
  • Calculates quarterly tax provision, deferred taxes and effective tax rate
  • Researches tax return issues to facilitate accurate compliance as needed
  • Ensures compliance with federal and state estimated tax payment requirements
  • Maintains detailed work papers supporting tax returns using MS Excel
  • Reconciles tax-related general ledger accounts
  • Assists with preparation of year-end audit work papers
  • Assists with various special projects as assigned
 
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Accounting or Finance from a four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience with income tax preparation in a multi-state environment.
  • Partnership/S Corporation experience required. 
  • Strong analytical skills and CPA (or parts of the exam passed) are required for this position.
 
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have basic skills in Microsoft® Access, and intermediate skills in Microsoft® Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet navigation and research, and tax preparation software such as CCH. Experience using MS Query and Excel for advanced reporting is preferred.
 
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The position does not currently have direct supervisory responsibilities, but may provide direction to staff within the Finance department
