Analyst
Family Office that invests directly and indirectly in private and public debt and equity, real estate, oil and gas, and other investments through a variety of vehicles seeks to add an experienced Analyst. Working with the President, Managing Director, CFO and Accounting Staff, the Analyst will assist senior executives in underwriting, due diligence, monitoring and oversight of the family’s investments, as well as supporting other critical back-office and day to day functions of the Family Office. This position will be based in the Family Office’s located in Dallas, Texas.
 
 
Primary Responsibilities
Underwriting
  • Assist in market-level intelligence gathering activities such as tracking deal terms and maintaining a high degree of pipeline visibility.
  • Create, maintain, and review financial business and return models used in the underwriting process and financial modeling of long term projections or estate planning scenarios.
  • Conduct market-level and asset-level due diligence and research to validate assumptions and check facts supporting potential investments;
  • Participate in calls and meetings with regard to prospective business opportunities and/or investment managers.
  • Facilitate deal velocity by maintaining thorough due diligence checklists and coordinating underwriting tasks between Family Office executives and Deal Sponsors.
  • Assist in the drafting of investment recommendations and investment memos, maintenance and status reports as well as investment/portfolio reporting.
  • Performing a variety of nonfinancial tasks as requested by the Family.
  • Assistance with regulatory and reporting compliance.
Oversight
  • Maintain detailed records of each investment and schedules of all deliverables from investments to Family (reporting, documents, compliance, cash flow etc.), which may require follow-up with Family Office Executives or Deal Sponsors from time to time.
  • Provide monthly asset-level, manager-level, or company-level reports where needed, including valuation, status of the company (cash needs on the horizon, exit strategy changes, and management team status).
  • Visit sites, managers, and companies on an as needed basis (i.e. some investments may require regular visits and others may require ad-hoc visits).
Back-Office Support
  • Assist in maintaining Family Office compliance with all deal documents and analyze needs for capital and capital calls to ensure they are in alignment with commitments/agreements.
  • Maintain a constant ledger of returns on each investment.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of various reports to the family.
  • Maintain and understand each investment’s income status (both cash basis income to the family and tax basis income for family tax estimates).
  • Assist in other administrative functions as requested of the Family Office by the Family
  • Maintain at all times the Family’s privacy and confidential information included but not limited to the Family’s net worth and the size and/or nature of its investments.

 
 
Secondary Responsibilities
 
  • Continually develop investing knowledge/skillset through professional education and regular interaction with seasoned executives with other firms.
  • Stay abreast of macroeconomic, technological, and political trends that may have an adverse impact on the family’s alternative asset investing strategy or, conversely, opens windows for opportunistic investments in new asset classes.
 
Qualifications and Required Skills
Academics
  • Minimum of 5 plus years’ experience with a background in investment management, wealth management, accounting and tax, with some exposure to private debt and equity, commercial real estate, as well as oil and gas investing is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics; and/or Master’s degree in business, or related field is required, along with some professional certifications (CPA, CFA, etc.), preferred, not required.  Must exhibit strong academic performance with an emphasis on finance.
  • Strong operational background with emphasis or heavy focus on finance, ability to track and manage complex work in a changing environment.
  • Must exhibit an aptitude with technology and ability to learn software applications. Software capabilities should include proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint along with strong financial modeling skills and experience creating financial projections.
 
Additional Desired Attributes
  • Excellent communication skills are needed with the ability to summarize complex situations and data in a clear and concise manner, preparing high level briefs that summarize that data and support the thesis whether it is a decision on a new investment or why an invoice should be paid.
  • A high degree of integrity, a solid work ethic, and interpersonal skills supported by multiple references is required. Ideal candidate should be well spoken, maintain a professional demeanor, and communicate effectively with formidable presentation skills.
  • Healthy curiosity and analytical by nature with a solid judgment relating to people, both in terms of character and capabilities.
  • Highly organized, confident, proactive and detail oriented with the ability manage and prioritize a large number of tasks and projects meeting deliverables on-time.
