VP Controller

Position Summary

The Controller will perform critical support for the overall growth strategy of the company, primarily by providing day-to-day leadership and management of the accounting functions, inclusive of revenue accounting, lease accounting, accounts payable, technical accounting and tax compliance. Key aspects of the Controller’s responsibilities will be to (1) maintain and develop a team that is appropriately trained and skilled, (2) drive process and system/technology enhancements which allow for enhanced efficiency and solid internal controls, (3) and ensure compliance with US GAAP.  The Controller will manage and continuously seek to enhance relationships, including those within the accounting team, cross-functional team members, as well as company senior leadership, ownership and audit committee members.  S/he will also serve as a strategic partner by helping business leaders within the company anticipate business issues and drive good decision making through sound financial management. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Functional Duties
 
  • Manage and continuously improve the company’s accounting processes, internal controls and the month-end close to drive and ensure efficient, accurate, and timely close processes.
  • Manage the Accounts Payable team and process.  Ensure timely and accurate payment of invoices, proper controls are in place and periodically review Accounts Payable processes for controls, best practices, and efficiency.
  • Ensure appropriate application and documentation of US GAAP for day-to-day transactions as well as less frequent activities such as acquisitions, divestitures, lease swaps, debt refinancing, equity issuance, ASC 842, etc.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory and accounting pronouncements that will affect the Company’s financial statements and position and determine best and proper application of regulatory and accounting pronouncements.
  • As requested, assist with special projects in areas such as M&A deal evaluation, deal structure and due diligence.  Proactively stay involved in acquisition integration planning and execution, particularly around point-of-sale system changeover, and valuation/purchase price allocation for acquisition targets
  • Monitor, assess, and plan for current trends and emerging developments within the field and practice of accounting and tax to ensure the company’s compliance and preparedness.

  • Recruit, retain and develop professionals with the goal of building and maintaining a world-class accounting team to support the Company’s growth strategies, execution of responsibilities, and bench strength for accounting, finance, and overall business leadership roles. Guide the professional development of the team through setting of individual goals and objectives as well as staff career development and training plans. 
  • Mentor and manage the Accounting Team members to ensure a high level of engagement and professional development.  Continually strive to develop talent within the Accounting organization to promote retention and meet current and future business needs.
  • Proactively develop relationships with cross-functional leadership and operational staff to provide timely and accurate information to drive the business.


Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Skills and qualifications that assist in efficiently completing this job include: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Active CPA license
  • Direct exposure to analyzing and interpreting GAAP pronouncements
  • Direct experience within acquisition accounting and due diligence a plus
  • Direct experience within SEC/consolidated financial reporting and application of Sarbanes-Oxley financial requirements a significant plus
  • Unquestionable integrity, credibility, and character with demonstrated moral and ethical behavior
  • Strong work ethic and superior communication/interpersonal skills, as well as a low-ego approach to providing exceptional customer service to all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience executing process improvements in a high growth environment
  • 10+ years total experience with 5+ in finance/accounting leadership roles
  • Problem Solving - Identify problems, determine root cause, and offer/execute solutions working with key stakeholders.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high growth environment
  • Experience in a private equity-owned company a plus
